Alan Dichter
Alan Dichter has worked in public education for more than three decades. As a New York City educator, Alan served as an Instructional Superintendent and the Deputy Superintendent for Leadership and New School Development. He was the first Director of New School Development for the NYC Department of Education and founded the Executive Leadership Academy.
Mr. Dichter was the Principal of Satellite Academy for more than 8 years and during that time he mentored new school principals as part of the NYC Annenberg Challenge and helped with the first redesign of a large high school into smaller learning communities. He also collaborated with the Coalition of Essential Schools, The Annenberg Institute and the National School Reform Faculty. Alan has worked with school districts in Indiana, Colorado and Texas, supporting the work of high school reform and leadership development. Most recently, Alan served as the Director of Leadership Development for the Portland (OR) Public Schools. He is a co-author of a number of articles, including the well-known Stages of Team Development (www.annenberginstitute.org/pdf/Stages.pdf ), The Power of Protocols, and the newly released, Going Online with Protocols.
Mr. Dichter has focused extensively on the development of facilitative leadership skills, and is also versed in coaching leaders for challenging situations, School Quality Review and designing high-impact professional development programming. He now lives in Portland, Oregon.
